It’s well known that space is at a premium in Japan but the innovations that arise from such dilemmas always surprise me. Below is a series of photos showing a Japanese version of a three car garage in action. This is not uncommon and the elevator is operated at a station off to the side of the car park. Now it isn’t likely that all of these cars are owned by the same family. You would be very fortunate to be assigned the street level space as it take a minute or so to rise and lower the stalls and that’s in addition to the time that it takes you to walk to and from the terminal to do so.

Hi Shane, I’m visiting here for the first time [via the Paris Traveler] and your post on this garage reminds me immediately of this car stacking shot I took in Kyoto within a residential home.
